Smart Fortwo Passion Cabriolet
Smart Fortwo Cabriolet
Many impressive vehicles have worn the designation: cabriolet. This has come to signify models that combine lots of features with fun, elegance and high fashion as primary objectives. This convertible model of the smart fortwo was made to supply large doses of fun in a stylish, feature-laden model.
The smart fortwo pure and passion models already make drivers smile. The cabriolet kicks things up yet another notch. It is a superb inner city microcar that looks like it is seeking fun, sun and good times.
In keeping with a spirit of fun, sun and good times, the cabriolet offers upgrades in several areas of the smart passion. The sound system and radio are upgraded in this model. This is truly the smart car you can make your own, as other available options include:
- Metallic paint treatments and style package
- Center storage console
- Cruise control
Of course the most noteworthy feature is the convertible soft-top. This is part of the cabriolet treatment that also includes a heated rear glass window, which can adjusted to a large number of positions – while traveling at nearly any speed.
The excellent design of the cabriolet top can even be opened at highway speeds with no need to pull over and stop. It is the only car with a convertible top that can be deployed in this manner.
The removable side roof bars can be taken out and stored in a tailgate compartment. The rewards of doing this allow for maximum driver visibility and a completely “open air” driving experience.
Like its siblings in the smart line, the cabriolet maintains the same thrifty power plant. This keeps the car true to its roots. It is an extremely capable urban commuter – and it excels at getting you where you want to go in a fun and sporty way.
The rear-mounted 1000cc three-cylinder engine produces 70-horsepower a
nd 68 feet-pounds of torque. This is the standard smart engine in all models and is not turbocharged or direct injected. At a fully dressed curb weight of less than 2,000 pounds, this moves the smart fortwo cabriolet quickly, and at speeds of up to 70 MPH.
This fulfills the mission of the passion cabriolet. The intent was to make the car sporty-looking – not a speedster. The cabriolet may look like a microcar roadster, but it was not engineered to propel it at breakneck speeds.
The smart fortwo cabriolet’s power plant and design allows for fuel economy of 41 MPG on the highway and 33 MPG city. Smart has taken an already popular design and succeeded in giving it a sunny disposition and made it even more fun to drive.
Greetings, my daughter’s purchased her smart car from O’Reagons Mercedes Benz in Halifax NS.
Very concerned as car will often act up , cannot shift, cannot lock doors, & also had to leave her car unlocked with key in the ignition as she could not put car in park & could not remove key or lock the doors.
This has been a reoccurring problem & she has had it repaired at least (control board) twice ….now it is acting up again. I have checked web blogs re this problem & it is certainly not an unknown problem.
Her car is still under warranty until April 2012 so she is very concerned about the cost of owning a car that does this at least 2 or 3 times a year. (She has been able to “unlock” the shifter a few of the times without taking it in for repairs.
I notice the American blogs are discussing the same problems so it has been a problem with these cars for at least seven years.
Kindly advise if a recall or a fix for this problem has been initiated as this is certainly not being corrected by replacing a faulty control board with another faulty control board.
Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
Alan
As a former risvece member and now company owner concerned with environmental impact, I shed the dead weight of an oversized SUV with 13.9 mpg to an efficient Smart ForTwo getting over 40 mpg A no brainer for our sales calls and general travel, this car has made a huge impact on our bottom line regarding fuel costs.Keep it up and great job! If Smart ForTwo ever wants to test out another model for the value of fuel economy on a small business, by all means Pick Me, Pick Me we’d be glad to add another to our company.
