smart car pure
smart fortwo pure
Definition of pure: not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material; without any extraneous and unnecessary elements
It is perhaps the truest testament to the Smart Pure that the very name inspires such a definition. The very name of this small marvel of 21st century design and engineering aptly fits the car.
It is designed with the appropriate amount of forethought and wisdom necessary for the challenging times we face today. So would it be any wonder this “smart” car is priced at an amazing MSRP of 13,990 CAD?
Would this figure be more amazing if you were told this is a “wunderchild” of Mercedes Benz?
It is …
The smart pure coupe has been created to get you and a passenger to your destination – safely and while having an unbridled amount of fun while doing it.
How about if you were told that this “ultra urban transporter” is still priced less than the Chevrolet Aveo, Nissan Sentra, Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla? Would that influence your decision?
How about if you knew it is nearly $2,600 cheaper than the 2012 Fiat 500 Pop?
These are all great values, but here’s the million dollar question …
Do they leave indelible smile imprints on faces after driving one like the Pure does?
The Pure isn’t intended to be decadently appointed like a Bugatti Veyron. That isn’t the mission Smart took on when building the Pure.
Smart concentrated on including standard features like a 5-speed automated, manual transmission with manual or automatic mode, which make it nearly “amusement park” fun to drive. They included a central remote locking system and efficiently appointed interior with a 2-spoke leather steering wheel. Smart included comfort features like a cool fabric interior and outside temperature indicator.
If you do want one of the few available factory options, things like air conditioning with automatic temperature control, special color options, power steering, and heated seats are available. And if you do like to cruise for a bit longer distances, a smart cruise control package and several sound system upgrades are available.
Smart placed the emphasis and thought into standard features like an electronic stability program and anti-lock braking system. Front and side airbags weren’t enough for Smart on this inner city cruiser, so they put in eight airbags, including: full size driver and passenger airbags, window airbags, side airbags, and even kneebolster airbags.
And unlike the Bugatti, the Pure gets 33 MPG in the city and 41 MPG on the highway. Smart was forged to conquer the challenge of providing intercity travel – with an almost childlike amount of fun while doing it.
But even the Bugatti doesn’t have the Pure “tridion” protective safety cell for passengers, which is designed to encase the occupants in a protective shell in case of an accident. Take a moment and picture three-tank-tough layers of specially strengthened steel which is reinforced in key strategic areas. The tactical reinforcement allows it to absorb any impact and transfer the energy of crash away from the passengers.
If this isn’t enough, consider the wheels of the Smart – even they are designed to absorb the energy from a crash and protect the passengers.
The Smart has a top speed of nearly 90 blistering mph, which, in our considered opinion, is actually too fast to excel at what the Smart was built for – inner city driving. You can really put the Smart through its paces and accelerate from 0-60 in pulse-pounding under 13-second sprint. But there isn’t much point in doing it – this kind of jaw-dropping acceleration is rarely needed in city driving.
True to our word – throughout the years – we have built the perfect car for the urban traveler!
I found two real nice article on the smart and its rocky road at
http://www.thesmartcars.com. The article is titled intelligent smart car – unintelligent ideas. Its a small mircale according to this post the smart car is still around!!
