Their never acknowledge defeat business attitude, Mercedes-Benz and Daimler’s smart, GmbH is again flaunting another concept smart car. They’ve labeled it the worlds first eco-friendly pickup truck —the electric Smart For-Us concept.

It’s a two-passenger mini-micro city pickup. Considerably larger that the smart fortwo coupe, by three feet, which makes it a few inches shy of a Mini Cooper. Moreover the mini-micro city pickup bed is laid-out to carry a 2 new smart electric bikes, and to charge them on the go. Similar to the Geely IC.

The smart ForUs employs the lithium-ion battery and electric drive (having current problems) from the smart ED electric car due on sale this spring.

This is great another concept smart car that will never make it to the street!

smart GmbH has manufactured or tried manufacturing no less than 8 different models. They included the smart crossblade, the smart forfour, smart Roadster and their 4 door smart forfour. All of them no longer produced and a complete financial disasters. There were also all the concepts promises. Starting with the smart crosstown, the SUV smart formore, smart forvision, the smart ForspeED and now the smart ForUs concept.

The core car for smart, GmbH has been the original smart fortwo model. We believe like most sensible consumers why not get the first one right? Then move on to bigger and better things. Mercedes-Benz USA, planned to re-launch the smart car with marketing campaign. But has instead provided us another reproof concept flop showed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit calling it the For-Us.

While Mercedes-Benz (Daimler) comes off its best year in sometime, their smart GmbH division remains a problem, as it has since the initial smart car was sold nearly 13-years ago.

Unfortunately, before and after the smart fortwo’s USA arrival in 2008, marketing was neglected by Penske, the original USA distributor. Making the U.S. one of Daimler’s biggest trouble spots, where smart car sales last year nose-dived to just over 5,000 cars.

This year they’ll launch of the third-generation Fortwo as a 2013 model based on the Forvision concept that just debuted in Frankfurt. The update as we understand it will be mostly cosmetic, but third-generation electric models will feature increased range and performance and, if all goes to plan, will actually be for sale and not just for lease.

Many are wondering how smart is the smart car and exactly how clever is Mercedes-Benz USA marketing?
